Miramichi has always been a community shaped by the people who choose to call it home, and Sonia is one of those people.

Originally from India, Sonia is one of the first voices featured on Miramichi’s Voices, a podcast dedicated to sharing the stories of the diverse individuals who contribute to our region. Her episode is a portrait of quiet determination: a young woman who arrived in a new country, built a life from the ground up, and never stopped moving forward.

Today, Sonia juggles roles at Tim Hortons, KFC, and RBC, a schedule that speaks for itself. More than the hustle, though, what stands out in her story is the sense of belonging she found here. Miramichi welcomed her, and she welcomed it back.

“Keep going, work hard, and stay strong. That leads to opportunities and growth.”

When asked about a favourite spot in the city, she didn’t hesitate: Ritchie Wharf, a place where she feels genuinely connected to her new home. It’s a small detail that says something large about what community can mean when you arrive somewhere new and find it reaching back.

Stories like Sonia’s are a reminder of what makes the Greater Miramichi region what it is: a place where effort, diversity, and genuine human connection come together.
