Miramichi, NB — November 3, 2025 — The Greater Miramichi Service Commission (GMSC), in collaboration with Horizon Health, the Department of Health and the GMSC Healthcare Committee are proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Healthcare Excellence Awards, which will be presented at the annual Healthcare Homecoming Celebration on November 8, 2025. Community Health Champion: Brian Cortes, Resident Attendant at Shannex, goes above and beyond, caring for residents and volunteering with Dining with Dignity and MADD to support those facing homelessness and mental health challenges.
Excellence in Patient Care: Cassie Doiron, RN, brings heart and humanity to every patient. Known for singing at the bedside, her compassionate palliative care has brought comfort to countless families.
Teamwork & Collaboration: Dr. Ninian Slorach has led palliative care at Miramichi Hospital for over 20 years, building strong, collaborative teams and mentoring the next generation of care providers.
Rising Star in Healthcare: Aimee MacLean, LPN at Mount St. Joseph, is known for her integrity, empathy, and the personal connections she builds with every resident.
Innovator in Healthcare: Dr. Kathleen MacMillan is shaping the future of rural medicine through the Miramichi Medical Mentorship Program and the 3 R’s Initiative, connecting students and physicians to strengthen local care.
