Before you apply for a permit… check this first
A lot of delays come down to missing or incomplete information at the start. Work through the checklist below before you submit — ticking these off now can save you weeks, sometimes months, later.
0 of 5 complete
Confirmed your zoning
Verify that your intended use is permitted in your zone before investing time in drawings or documents. Contact Development Services if you're unsure.
A site plan ready
Your site plan should show the property boundaries, existing structures, and the location of any proposed work relative to the lot.
Proper drawings
Drawings should be to scale and clearly show dimensions, materials, and the scope of work. Incomplete or unclear drawings are one of the most common causes of permit delays.
Any required engineered documents
Some projects require a professional engineer's stamp — structural, HVAC, or otherwise. Check whether your project type requires engineered drawings before you apply.
Checked if other approvals are needed
Depending on your project, you may also need approvals from the Planning Advisory Committee, Heritage, or other agencies. Identifying these early avoids surprises mid-process.
✓ You're ready to apply. Good work getting ahead of this.
